Election Judge Info

Election Judge Eligibility

  • You must be an eligible voter in Minnesota
  • You must be at least 18 years old on Election Day
  • You must be able to read, write and speak English
  • You CANNOT temporarily or permanently live in the same house as a candidate where that candidate is on the ballot in that precinct
  • You CANNOT be a relative of any Election Judge serving in the same precinct. You may however work separate, non-overlapping shifts in the same precinct
  • You CANNOT be a candidate or the relative of any candidate on the ballot in that precinct

A Relative is defined as a Spouse, Parent, Step-Parent, Child, Stepchild, Brother, Step-brother, Sister or Step-Sister.

Becoming an Election Judge

Election Judges

All Election Judges must complete a certification training session every 2 years. Once certified an Election Judge may serve on Primary Election Day, General Election Day and any special elections during that 2 year period.

Head Judges

In addition to election judge training, all Head Election Judges must complete an additional training session.

Health Care Facility (HCF) Election Judges

In addition to election judge training, all HCF Judges must complete an additional training session.

2022 Election Judge Training

Election Judge Training Registration is CLOSED.  Any judge that has registered but has not completed the training MUST do so by Friday October 21st.  If you have any questions, please contact your City or Township Clerk.
