Waste Disposal & Recycling

Responsibilities

This department administers the laws, standards, and procedures governing solid waste management in Chisago County; overseeing waste disposal programs, fees, licensing requirements, and penalties for lack of compliance through the County Solid Waste Ordinance.

Waste Management Plan

The purpose of Chisago County’s Environmental Services department is to protect the health, welfare, and safety of the county’s residents, to conserve local natural resources, and to protect the water, air, and land of Chisago County.

As part of this effort, the department is mandated to create a Waste Management Plan. The plan is a detailed roadmap of how the county will manage its waste and reduce its dependence on landfilling. Waste products include such things as garbage, recycled materials, yard waste, problem materials, household hazardous waste, construction and demolition waste, and conserved or recovered materials. Management of these materials will be accomplished through waste systems, abatement programs, and waste policies, while looking at future solid waste management options to reduce waste, prevent pollution, and recover resources.
