Public Need To Know Information

Visiting Information:

  • All visitors must provide a valid government-issued photo identification.
  • All visitors, as well as their personal property, are subject to search.
  • Visitors must be 18 years of age or older unless they are a child of an inmate being visited, in which case, they must be accompanied by the other parent or legal guardian.
  • Children may not be left unattended in the lobby area at any time.
  • Inmates have the right to refuse any visit.
  • Inmate visits may be denied if the inmate is under disciplinary sanctions.
  • Using a cell phone during a visit is prohibited.
  • A maximum of 2 visitors per inmate is allowed at one time.
  • Social visits are limited to 20 minutes.
  • Co-defendants are prohibited from visiting with incarcerated inmates without prior authorization.
  • Correctional staff reserves the right to terminate or refuse any visit, which may constitute a threat of safety, security, or maintenance of order within the jail facility.
  • Visitors must conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times as such persons creating a disturbance or using foul language will be asked to leave the jail facility. In addition, those such visitors will be subject to arrest and criminally charged. Furthermore, visitors who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance will be denied visiting an inmate.
  • Visitors must wear proper attire at all time. There is no revealing or removal of clothing allowed during a visit. Furthermore, footwear is mandatory.
  • Introduction of, or an attempt to introduce, contraband into the Chisago County Jail will result in arrest and criminal prosecution.
  • Destruction of equipment or other Chisago County property will result in arrest and criminal prosecution.

Inmate Phone Contact

Inmates have access to a phone system during regular out of cell periods, which allows them to make phone card calls, collect calls, and video calls to family and friends. Phone and video calls are not subject to monitoring and recording. Calls to verified legal representation are considered private and are not monitored or recorded.

Inmates are not permitted to receive incoming phone calls. Each inmate has a voicemail line where a short, private message can be left for the individual inmate.

If you are mailing money to an inmate, please do not send personal checks as we only accept money orders, certified bank or teller checks and cash. However, we do not encourage and ask you to refrain from sending cash in the mail. Money orders, certified checks, or teller checks greater than $350.00 will be held for up to 10 business days until the funds clear the bank deposit. We will not accept pre-stamped return envelopes or stamps of any kind.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office has a zero tolerance policy for sexual abuse and sexual harassment. If you, or someone you know, are experiencing sexual abuse or sexual harassment while incarcerated the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office wants to know. We want to keep you safe. It is your right to be free from sexual abuse and sexual harassment. All allegations of sexual abuse and sexual harassment in the jail will be investigated.

How to Report

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office offers multiple ways to report sexual abuse and sexual harassment. You may remain anonymous when making a report. Reports may be made verbally or in writing to any staff member or volunteer. Reports may also be made to any medical or mental health staff of the jail. In addition you may contact Chisago County Human Resources or the PREA Coordinator to make a report.

Victim Information Notification Everyday (VINE)

The Minnesota State Victim Notification Service, VINE, is a service through which victims of crime can use the telephone or internet to search for information regarding their offender’s custody status and register to receive telephone and email notification when the offender’s custody status changes. This service is brought to you by the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office. The VINE toll-free number for Minnesota VINE is 877-664-8463 or register online.

Do not depend solely on the VINE Service for your protection. If you feel that you may be at risk, take precautions as if the offender has already been released.
